Barbara's Story
Married on Valentine's Day 1970 at age 19. Had 4 children ...three sons, Shawn Michael, born on the 4th of July, 1971, twins Thomas Layne & Timothy Wayne, born on June 03, 1972. Yeah, 3 in 11 months! Lol, that was an experience and still is! One daughter, Michelle Lynn, born on Feb.09,1980. Have had 10 grandchildren, one stillborn. And am expecting my first great-grandchild in July!!
My daughter was born with multiple handicaps that required 47 surgeries by the age of 15. Managed her care in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Charlottesville, Va. at University of Virginia Medical Center, and finally at N.Y.U. Medical Center in Manhattan. She is 34 years old now and her health has been stable for many years. She remains with me, as she will for as long as I am able to continue to care for her. My health has been failing rather rapidly the past 5 years so most of the medical appointments are now mine,...Expand for more
but I am still here. I think I just finally slowed down from her health care enough for mine to finally catch up with me.
I left my husband in 1993 at age 43, after 23 years of marriage. We finally divorced in 1996. One month after leaving my husband I met Billy Hines while visiting a friend in Texas. We've been together for 21 years now.
Have mostly been a wife, mother and caregiver but during marriage also managed a restaurant, and a yogurt shop. Also attended Sinclair college after boys were grown. After leaving marriage was a property manager, and worked in home health care administration, including office manager for Heartland Home Health Care. I am now retired.
My daughter and I now split our time between our home in Moraine, and my eldest son's home in the cornfields south of Springfield, (Lol) where she enjoys playing karaoke on weekends with both sides of his extended family.
