Barbara's Story
greetings south shore alum. i wont be able to make it to the class reunion in september but i am sure it will be, as this page is so aptly named, a roaring trip done "memory lane" .
i am the director of a foundation called WALK IN MY SHOES GLOBAL PROJECT. it is a non-profit organization that my youngest son malcolm initated in high school. he will be graduating tomorrow from a university in philadelphia. we collect new and gently used children's shoes from donors in the u.s. and distribute them to children in primarily (but not exclusive to) developing countries. in 4 years we have distributed thousands of pairs of shoes to children in 24 counries i.e., mexico, senegal, guatemala, mongolia, ghana, guinea, morocco, haiti,uganda, the congo, dominican republic, ecuador, etc) . we will be traveling to sierra leone next month to distribute shoes and to provide dental care to children with no access to health care....Expand for more
. my husband ossie is a dentist with a practice in washington d.c. and dental director of global foundation named HEALING HANDS. one of the most significant supporters of our efforts has been ms. ismay ashford, that distringuished english teacher and world traveler from south shore high school.
i am also ownerr of a gallery that carries tribal jewelry, textiles and home decor from around the world. the store helps to support the shoe project. (walkinmyshoesglobalproject.com/ bovedatribes.com)
i attended howard university and antioch after graduating from south shore, lived in france, got married and moved to puerto rico. worked as flight attendant, and attended art school while living in san juan. i have 3 children and i am an abuelita (grandmother) of a 6 month old muchacho.(boy)
