Barbara's Story

Barbara (Johnson)Hair here. I am divorced, but kept my last name. I can work the last name of "Hair" and I started college again with that name and want to graduate with it. I am stubborn. I now go to college part time to finish an Assciates in Arts I started 20 years ago. I had 63 credits of bits and pieces, some nursing, EMT, Criminal Justice, teaching, so I went to a counselor and asked what did I need to get a degree-the above was planned. In the mean-time, I also started a degree in American Sign Language. I work full-time and run a business, plus going for in-home child development associates certificate. Gearing towards special needs. My grandson, 5 years old, is autistic. There is a great need for special needs childcare. In '97, I was in a near-fatal freak crash in Florida. I was in the infield of the Desoto Speedway, sitting in the cab of a wrecker, doors open to ventilate when a stock car lost control and hit the wrecker at 60MPH. I was a deputy and ran a cleaning business. Broken back, neck and head injury. For 2 years I was recovering and started anew with a definite left side issue and it caused a phenom called, Foreign accent syndrome, rare, but I now talk with a British/Aussie accent. Even though I have lived in Texas for 11 and 1/2 years, I still sound like I am not from here! You should hear me when I come back from NH, after a visit with my kids and grandkids. After graduating in 1976, I moved up there for 11 years. The head truama also caused some memory loss. So if I ask, please don't be insulted. I am very active in my church. I do homeless outreach and am hoping to accomplish my dream of adopting children that will age out of foster care so that they might have some place to call home. Some one who loves and cares for them. I found out working with the homeless that 60% of teenage homeless are those that have aged out of foster care. Been approved, but money is the issue. I believe it will come about when it is suppose to. My mailing address, since it won't let me put e-mail, is: PO Box 79531, Saginaw, TX 76179. I will only...Expand for more
have this avenue of communication until the end of May. This is a better avenue to reach me. Since my eldest son (30) had to teach me how to text, you can just imagine how I am at computers! Had brief encounters, once in early '80's to tour with band, singing and then another belonging to the Lone Star Music Association in early'00's. First time gave that up to raise my kids. second time to go to school. I remember, "Pask and Johnson" in the Cabarets, Challengers, EMT, Rescue Squad! Chorus, Musicals, having trouble with my math-still am, that's all I need for my associates now-hanging out with other theater and music buds. Writing, writing and writing. Still do and have one published work through the college literary forum and am working to have short stories published. I hope I am remembered for being the way I am now. Serving God, being kind and holding my tongue when I thought otherwise. Being stubborn. If someone told me I couldn't do anything and it wasn't against the law and didn't bring harm to anyone-I did it. Driving a firetruck. Pursuing a career to become a paramedic when it was not a female profession. Eventually becoming a cop-lifetime dream-at 32 and single parent of 4, but I did it. Being told I would never amount to anything-Putting on "the mask-Hiding my home-life well enough, that I could surprise you if you asked. If anyone thought as to why I was so involved and away from home-life, you could guess. When I contacted a buddy in my class of '76, when I saw his name-we started our life stories of 35 years. He was very surprised! I fully believe that God put me where I needed to be and He made good out of the "bad" parts of my life. As for now, I may not be able to make the reunion. I just feel that spending that much for a weekend, deserves to have at least a full week and I don't have the time or monies to do that. So, if I ever figure out Facebook or you e-mail, snailmail me, that is how we can stay in contact. Wish I could see you all at the reunion! Have a blast in the past. Please let me know who showed up in a Leisure Suit!

We were greeted and welcomed with flowers, dancing, songs and joy.
Very humbling. As I have said, what an honor it was to be a part of this trip.
