Barbara's Story

I've loved photography since I was in the third grade and got my very first camera. People expect me to have my camera with me. After graduating Bellevue, I took the summer off. When Autumn arrived, I was like a salmon swimming upstream because I always had. Yep, back to school for old Barb. I graduated Draughon's Business College in 1964 and hit the work-a-day world. My first job was with Life and Casualty Insurance Company. I worked in the Green Hills office. (Faye Fox, I found out, was working for them in the downtown home office.) In 1966 I married. In 1973 I had my son (only child). This marriage ended 2 - 3 years later. I spent the next 10 years raising my son, with the help of my dear mother. He graduated Hillwood High School (which took over the young people who would have been attending Bellevue, had it still been in existence.) I' worked as a Secretary, Office Manager, Accounting person, etc., etc. for the better part of 45+ years. My son finally found someone to love and got married August 2008. I had a very sweet daughter-in-law, born and raised on one of the Philippine islands. One of my proudest moments was when my son told me I had given his wife her first American slang. (Ever hear a Filipino say, "I don't think so"?) Cracked me up; my son didn't think it was funny. Sadly in September 2014 she decided she no longer wished to be married to my son and she went her way. I moved back into the house in which I grew up in 2008. The house is over 100 years old. It's taken a lot of refurbishing, but it's "home." Retired in February 2009. I didn't know quite how to take it; but now I don't know how I would manage work into my schedule. June 22, 2010 I was elected and installed as President of the Rebekah Assembly of Tennessee. Check it out at iooftn.org. There are oodles of pictures. On May 8, 2011 I had the privilege of presenting a wreath for the Rebekahs of Tennessee at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington Cemetery. The chance of a lifetime. In 2011 I served as the Tennessee Representative to the part of Odd Fellowship in which I hold the most interest. Met many of my facebook friends at that time. One in particular was a lady from Arkansas. I traveled to Arkansas for her installation as President of their Assembly in September. One of the people in my lodge was elected Executive Officer at the international level. I have been requested to travel with them. Looks like I'll be in Ke...Expand for more
ntucky, followed by Texas in October. The one weekend I will be home in October I'm expecting 20 ladies to come for lunch. Update - June 30, 2014 - I am now an appointed officer for the gentleman who was elected Executive Officer in 2012. I m the Chaplain General in the international. As Chaplain General I had the honor of giving the Invocation at a ceremony in the Amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery. In addition to that, I was privileged to be the one to hand the Tennessee wreath to the soldier to be placed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. WOW!! In August 2014 I traveled with a couple from Pegram, TN to Victoria, British Columbia for an International meeting. This was by big fancy pickup truck with me holding down the back seat. Saw parts of the country I'd never gotten to see before. Great experience. In 2015 I was invited to lunch by one of the members of the class of 1964. It's always nice to renew acquaintances. Update: March 2015 - Learning more about Roy as time passes. It's great to have a Christian friend to share times with. Life takes twists and turns. Like a river, it flows along. Roy and I have made a life changing decision to be together as man and wife. Life is good. God brought us together and together we will remain. Yes, you hear wedding bells. April 4, 2015 Roy Dale Mangrum and I became man and wife. I''m busier than ever! Roy Dale and I wish all of you a Very Merry CHRISTmas and a HAPPY New Year. Roy and I are going on two very happily married years together. What a great guy! ATTENTION - ATTENTION - ATTENTION!! The 2017 Bellevue High School alumni picnic is scheduled for Saturday September 23 at Edwin Warner Park shelter 10 starting at 2 o'clock . We will eat at 4 o'clock . Shelter 10 is off Vaughn Road. All alumni, teachers and former students are urged to attend. We are asking those who attend to bring enough food and drink for themselves and maybe a little extra.! Forks, knives, spoons, paper plates and cups will be furnished! This is an ALL CLASS picnic. I had hoped to have time to help set up another ALL CLASS REUNION. I had already gotten preliminary permission to use an indoor venue in Fairview, TN. This would be 55 years for the class of '63. Unfortunately, my time has been taken up with something else. Should you read this and want to head up a reunion, I have a 2013 reunion list and a 2014 Kingston Springs Elementary Reunion list to help you with contacts.

For some, it is significant that today is the birthday of Lieutenant General Nathan Bedford Forrest. For others, not so much. I don't agree with EVERYTHING the man did; but then again. . .do any of us agree with EVERYTHIN
