Barbara's Story
Hi to The Class of '62,
I hope everyone is well and happy. I would attend the reunion if I were local but I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've lived here since I was 27 and love it. It's beautiful, The City is exciting, the shore is close by, the mountains too, and the weather is ideal.
In my late teens and twenties, I worked for the federal government and traveled extensively. I lived in D.C. about three years, Manila two years, New Delhi about six months and visited many of the large cities in S. E. Asia. I visited the Middle East and Europe whenever traveling back to this country from a job. It was an exciting time and very educational. I married when I was 26 and divorced when 31. It was a terrible experience and also very educational.
In my thirties I worked as a Human Resources Manager (coming up through the ranks) for various manufacturing organizations in electronics. I enjoyed it very much for the most part and learned skills at work that were useful in everyday life. I ...Expand for more
went to college at 32, part-time while working, and majored in art.
In my forties and continually, I’ve been studying and practicing art. I paint acrylic and mixed media abstracts and create small sculptures. I have had some success with galleries in California but have recently quit the business side of it. I hang out with the poets as well as the artists and write also. I find both these ventures meaningful, life-enhancing and, yet again, very educational.
My husband Don and I were married in 87. We had no children, two cats. He passed away almost three years ago and I am still adjusting. It was a good marriage, fun, never dull, challenging (we were very different), completely worthwhile and, of course, very educational. I am grateful for the many friends I’ve made over the years as well as my Don’s family. He had six siblings, all married with children and now grandchildren, whom I love and see regularly.
Life is continually amazing. All I can say is thank you.
Best to all, Barbara
