Barbara's Story
Life
After high school, it took me several years to get my act together! The birth of my daughter was probably the biggest influencing factor. If you had asked me 20 years ago, where I'd be today.....this would not have been it! I'm not in the big city, with the ideal job, hitting happy hour and flirting at the local pub after work. Nope....Im just a busy mom, with a normal job, in a small NC town. I am the President of the local chapter of the American Business Women's Association and the treasurer of the local youth sports organization. I love coaching my daughter's softball team and although I hate to admit it, enjoy the occasional camping trip with the girl scouts.
College
My college years are a blur (for different reasons than my high school years, LOL)! ...Expand for more
When I finally realized I needed to get my degree, I was determined to do it quickly. I continued to commute to a full time job 5 days a week and 4 nights a week (even in summer) commuted to school. (I spent hours on the road)! For 3 1/2 years, I left my house at 6:30 AM and got home at midnight. My friends/neighbors practically raised my daughter during that time. My best moment was graduating Magna Cum Laude (something anyone who knew me in high school would have thought impossible)! My worst moment came during a temper tantrum from my daughter shortly after graduating. I realized how much precious time I had lost of her life as she screamed "I want my REAL mommy"! It took my neighbor to calm her down and then months of rebuilding our mother/daughter relationship.
