Barbara's Story
I married at age 19 to George Shectman, the father of my two daughters, Laura 30 and Allison 28. We worked together to create Lawn Genie a lawn service/landscape design business we ran for 20 years while we raised our daughters.
I returned to college and completed my degree to become a middle school sience teacher, and worked for 15 years in Rego Park, Queens trying to control and teach hormonely disturbed kids. I divorced, bought a house, worked, and completed my masters.
I have been married to Allen Wexler for 12 happy years and blended three wonderful step kids into our family. I have two grandkids Zachary 8 and Ryan 5, generously given me by my step ...Expand for more
daughter, Allison. Allen retired from 40 years of teaching Phs. Ed. in NYC school system. I started my own landscape contracting and design business called Dreamscapes by Barbara and have found my true calling. I adore all phases of gardening and landscape, and I am lucky to have a truly hard working and talented partner, Jose, who directs our terrific crew and makes my designs reality.(I welcome visits my website at DreamscapesbyBarbara.com) I am the only person I know who can not wait to start work again in the spring. Until then I will keep busy with family, travel, excercise, healthy gourmet cooking, photography, and new Siamese babycat named Simba.
