Barbara's Story
College
The main thing I remember about college was the studying. I felt like I was always studying. I enjoyed all of my accounting classes. I quit college at Christmas 1968 with no regrets to marry the love of my life. I would like to have gone back and finished and got my degree, but that has been impossible. I have no regrets though about quitting to get married. We have just celebrated 41 years of marriage.

e. I finally got the nerve to ask one of them how he expected me to get actual experience if he wouldn't hire me. I went to Granite Knitwear and applied for an inspector's job and worked there until almost a year after my daughter was born. I stayed home after that until my son was 3 years old. I went to work at Rowan Cotton Mills on third shift as a winder operator. After six years I gave that up because of problems breathing in the mill. I got a job with Salisbury Mfg. which I kept for 17 1/2 years until my health got so bad that I had to give up working Aug. 20 of 2004.
