Barbara's Story
In Barlow, I felt very insecure and insignificant amongst so many "confident" peers!! Little did I know that many of them were also going through the same identity crisis!! This I found out by going to class reunions!! LOL
Once I got out of Barlow, I just determined to break out of the old mold... so I cut my naturally curly hair into the 70's newly popular "afro" It was my brand new beginning in the next phase of my future life.
I did a stint at Mt. Hood Community College and got those proverbial "textbooks" as my reward! Then I got a job at JBL&K, downtown P-town and loved the freedom of making it on my own!
A year after meeting a "Cali-Boy", I moved right into the heart of Hollywood California where I began a new and exciting life in the cosmetic industry! However, at the same time I discovered that my Cali-Boyfriend had a mom that didn't accept any girl unless she was BOTH Ukranian and Catholic!! Being neither, she actually told my Cali-Boy that she would disown him if he married me!!! She was openly hateful and rude to me every time she saw me! This was certainly not the way I was brought up to behave, SO, I did what any farm-raised, self respecting, spunky, Oregon girl would do.... I left him... then I cried a lot!!
In hindsight, it was my destiny, because I ended up meeting my honey/hubby, Jack, whom I've been with for the last 32 years!
I feel the need to give you just a smidgen of insight about our crazy first meetings. He was born and raised in Quincy, Mass, a small suburb of Boston, (like Gresham is to Portland. ) I noticed his beautiful, dreamy, large eyes first.. then his full beard, which I thought was rugged. But then I was hit dead on by his absolutely outrageous "Boston Accent"!! I remember asking him so many times."huh?", "what did you say?", "come again?", are you speaking English??!!...Expand for more
It was completely embarrassing that I really couldn't understand his thick accent, or for that matter his 6 Bostonian friends that had also come from Quincy and lived in the same apartment! He really was quite charming, and it didn't take long to fall in love with him. He still insists that I am the one with the accent!
Jack and I have 3 wonderful "adult" daughters, which means we have a "semi-revolving door" but are actually "empty-nesters"!! LOL
Our oldest, Jennifer, is still at OSU in the "animal science" field. Our middle daughter, Christine, just got her Bachelors OF Arts Degree from Vanguard University in Southern Cali. She will be going on to Grad School in 1 year for her Teaching Masters. She has aspirations to teach Childrens' Theater and is currently employed as a teacher at the Portland Children's Theater. She was in numerous Drama and Musical Productions while attending college which gave me a great opportunity to combine my 2 favorite hobies..travel and photography!
Our youngest daughter, Meagan, is a personal nanny to several families. She has yet to decide what her future aspirations are and just enjoys life as it comes her way! (Much like her mom!)
Life is Good.. Life is Sweet.. Life is what YOU make of it!! Why not invite God to share it with you! He will help you through each day and show you how to truly LIVE, LAUGH, & LOVE your way through life, no matter what comes your way!
If you made it through my "story" ... CONGRATULATIONS... YOU ARE A REAL TROUPER!!
As I mentioned earlier, I operate 2 home businesses, but I am here for both friends & networking!
If you'd like to have a link to my web businesses, simply send me an email and I'd be delighted to show you how to enjoy wealth building from the comforts of your own home!
Have a great day AND a great life!
