Barbara's Story
Life
I graduated from Messiah College, PA in 1991 with a BA in Mathematics and a minor in Statistics. From there I went to Flagstaff, AZ and finished my MS in Mathematics from Northern Arizona University. I completed my PhD at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) in 2002 basically in Applied Mathematics through an interdisciplinary route. in Mathematics Education at UAF and have published three math books connecting school math to everyday math of the Yup'ik Eskimo people from Southwest Alaska. I live in Nenana Alaska, 40 miles south of Fairbanks, with my husband Todd. We have 2 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Ginger and Sparky. We have 15 acres and spend time raising game birds (pheasants, chukars, and ducks), gardening, and enjoying the outdoors both in the warm summer and the more often cold winters.
