Barbara's Story
Life
I met my soul-mate, Larry, when I was 39 y.o. and divorced. We had 22 1/2 years of happiness. Although Larry was 23 years older than me he always seemed 10 - 15 years younger than his chronological age. He blessed my life with his six adult children and his ten grandchildren. Larry died suddenly from pancreatic cancer in November 2020. I am slowly learning to live into a new 'normal' without him.
College
I graduated from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley,CA in 1989 with a Masters of Divinity.
Workplace
In 1990 I moved from CA to Idaho Falls, ID where I became co-pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. I was there for 7 years. Then I left to be...Expand for more
gin work with District 7 Hospice. I worked as a Hospice Chaplain, Bereavement Counselor and Volunteer Coordinator for 5 1/2 years. While I worked for Hospice I also did supply ministry for various congregations in various denominations within our region of Idaho. I did two 1 year interims for Lutheran congregations. The Hospice closed in Feb. of 2002 but I continue to do supply ministry in our part of Idaho. This type of part-time work allows me to be flexible for when my husband (who is retired) wants to travel. After over 20 years of doing interim ministry, I retired from congregational ministry in early 2020. I now do grief and bereavement ministry because I love it.
