Barbara's Story
After leaving Kansas and moving to Oklahoma with my family, I met and married my first husband, had a son, and moved to Mesquite, Texas.
I got a divorce in 1978, stayed in Mesquite and raised my son. When he turned 16 I moved to Detroit, Texas, went to work at Paris Jr. College, got my B.S. in education and became certified to teach in 1998. I am now teaching in Nevada, TX for the last 10 years.
Just got my Master's of Technology and Library Science on Dec. 18th. Looking for a small school or public library to work in. My son also teaches in Quinlin, Texas.
It's funny how much you miss people and places until you go back and visit. Nothing or no where was as big, or beautiful as you remember - which tends to let you down in so many ways!
Well, school is almost out for the summer! Three days left - grades were taken on the 24th, so it's a matter of keeping my 75 eleven year olds engaged or from tying me up and setting fire to the place.
I graduated with my Master's in Educational or Library Technology Dec. 2009, now it's a matter of finding a job! OOPS!!! Just found out they are down-sizing in most schools and placing aids in their libraries and computer labs. My Masters degree is obsolete. I guess I'll be teaching till I retire - age 65! Those kids are going to hate me!
STORY WIZARD
I always wanted to be a interior designer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a...Expand for more
n unprofitable idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. People are getting rich telling others how to decorate their house.
Movies, movies, movies are my favorite way to relax. When you can escape into the world of the characters for 90 min. or so is sometimes the best way to get rid of the weekly stress.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have admistrative support, a great team, and combat pay to be able to deal with the day-to-day pressures from parents who wish they were the teacher.
I have many heros, but my favorites are the children from Camp Kennedy. A camp I volunteer at with my friends each summer. I go there to fix hair, polish nails, listen to these amazingly, brave children who have cancer. These are my heros.
I wouldn't call them obsessions, nor would I sale my soul to see, but sports - I enjoy hockey, the Dallas Stars work for me, in reality TV I love - Survivor, Big Brother, Keeping Up w/the Kardashians, Flipping Out w/Jeff, All My Children, and Ellen Degenerous are my favorites, but I could be shopping!
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel and remove the 28 other apt. around me and add on 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, an eat in kitchen, a hot tub w/a large deck, and don't forget a housekeeper and yard man. My dream home would be in Kansas, of course.
If I won $100 million, I'd give a few millions to Camp Kennedy and my sisters, then spend the rest on me, me and oh yes, me.
