Barbara's Story
I moved to Tulsa, OK in 1988 and have been here ever since. I worked at a veterinary hospital for 8 years and piddled around with college (IT) while showing horses (hunter/jumpers). In 1990, while pregnant with my son, Shane, I sold the horses and started showing dogs (Akitas) quite successfully. It was a great opportunity to travel and still do something competitive with child in tow. In 1999, I began breeding sporthorses (showjumpers) which has always been my dream ... to produce an Olympic horse. I also went to work for DIRECTV for 6 years and worked my way up through the company to manager. I left DIRECTV in 2005 for my dream job ... breeding manager of what is quickly becoming one of the top hunter/jumper breeding facilities in the country. eavor, it has also been very rewarding. We purchase most of our horses in Europe (Germany and Holland), so the travel experiences have been amazing (never rent a Fiat Panda to drive on the autobahn!!!).
On the home front, Shane is 17 this year and is the coolest kid. He is into motorcycles and Formula 1 as well as gaming, of course. I have warped him a bit with my 80s music (Aerosmith, Dokken, Motley Crue, Vandenburg, Whitesnake, etc.), but it all seems to be coming back anyhow. I just gave him a head start. He is tortured into helping with the horses, but he does a fantastic job and was invited to work at the stallion stations in Germany. I feel so old ... he will be a senior this year and starting college soon. My husband, Wade, and I have been together for 12 years now. He is wonderfully supportive and a great guy.
