Barbara's Story
Life then:
After graduation from Lynbrook HS, I attended UC Davis. I began as a biology major--my true love--but ended up with a degree in history, emphasis in American and ancient, and a minor in English.
While at Davis, I joined the UCD fencing team with Lynbrookites Jan Sease and Jim Cookson and became interested in teaching.
After earning my elementary credential in UCD's intern teaching program, I taught two years in Davis JUSD, then married and moved to Yuba City, CA (one hour north of Sacramento) in 1976.
Life now:
I presently teach non-English-speaking kindergartners in one of the poorest schools in Yuba City (think "inner-city rural"). Each day is challenging, full of variety, and I often use dance, music, and a microphone to teach--how great is THAT?? I have also worked as a technology facilitator...Expand for more
in the district, helping other teachers implement computer-assisted curriculum in their classrooms.
Other life info:
I married in 1976, divorced in 1997, and have two children: Christina, 28, and Andrew, 24.
My present interests include outdoor activities (particularly fly-fishing in wilderness areas), cooking, reading, museums, music, brain research, and target shooting. Now that the children are launched, I'm renovating my house and plan to do some traveling outside the U.S.
As for the future, retirement is a long way off; fortunately, I still absolutely love my job. Eventually I'd like to migrate from the hot summers and poor air quality of the Sacramento Valley to somewhere near the Northern California coast.
I'm looking forward to the reunion and would love to hear from you! Please get in touch.
