Barbra's Story

Life For almost 20 years I lived overseas in 6 different countries. Our first assignment was Paris, then the tiny Island of Malta, Ireland, England, Algeria and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I have been blessed to have seen most of Europe. And most of the seven wonders of the world. I can remember in World geography class back in Po-Hi, reading about all the different countries of the world. It was at that time I only imagined visiting one of those places. When I first moved to Ireland and we were traveling in the countryside. The beauty of the different shades of green, brought back memories of when I was sitting in class. Looking at the pictures in my geography book, but now here I was. Feeling like I was inside that book. Living and breathing the beauty of all my surroundings. It was amazing for me and hard to explain my feelings. And I found it was that way in every country that I visited. I've had the opportunity to enjoy the different countries that I saw in those textbooks. Having been raised in the American Legion Home School one would never imagined that I would have had this wonderful opportunity of seeing so much of our small world. Believe me the more I travel and see of the world the smaller it seems. And as I encounter the many different cultures that I have been blessed to visit. I have loved every minute of my travels and...Expand for more
loved seeing our world and its varied peoples. But Christmas time is when I wish that I was back in the states enjoying the holidays. Oh, I miss the other holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving. And of course I missed going to the football games; But overseas at Christmas is the hardest time to be out of the states for me. So I make Christmas a big occasion by collecting ornaments from all over the world. During my travels I buy a least one ornament from each country I visit. And now I have more than enough to share. I have enjoyed the best of all my travels even though it can be tiring. I have learned a great deal from having lived in the harder countries, like Algeria. I have just now made it back to the states to live, and hopefully we will have a nice Christmas in our new home. I now have been back in the States for two years and have 2 new books. Our Home is a book of memories of living and growing up in the American Legion Children's Home. Now called Marland Children's Home in Ponca City OK. Mrs. Mayhue's Scrapbook is bits and pieces of the history of my time in the Home. I have a new book to be released end of May 2011 titled Heart to Heart which is inspirational thoughts. All proceeds from all my books goes directly to the Home. Its my way of saying thank you for the wonderful Home I was blessed to live in. God Bless you all.
