Baron's Story
I'm "Baron Dixon" on Facebook.
All the wacky stuff I was known for in High School I still do now. Not Theater as much though. I still act, but I do it in local underground independent movies and on viral video. My most recent work is an experimental Web series called "TYRANNOVISION" at dubya-dubya-dubya dot tyrannovision dot com(sorry, I hadta write it out that way). It's a goofy sci-fi/fantasy comedy about a despotic Tyrant who rules a totalitarian regime with the help of a mad scientist, and an army of inept minions, which I produce out of my own kitchen (I cook there, too!). I've chocked a bunch of production stills from the show into my photo album here, and those are basically my most recent photos.
Part of the fun in Viral Video is I can use green/bluescreen chroma key technology now to act in video projects created by other people whom I have never met in person. So I've gotten to play a number of interesting characters and even provide voices for cartoons. No, none of us make any money at this, but I never got paid for doing community theater either. Some stuff you just do anyway because you love it, y'know?
The best thing for me about High School was being amongst my friends. That's what kept me attending. I loved doing the plays, too. The late Molly Risso was a total fascist dictator drill sergeant of the Drama department...and exactly what I needed to keep me focused. I've never been one for discipline, but where SHOWBIZ is concerned, she drilled into most of us a discipline of professionalism. Theater was SACRED to her...and she made damn sure the rest of us held it sacred as well. People have always...Expand for more
told me I have "Stage Presence". Maybe so, I dunno. To ME, Stage Presence is showing up on time for my cues. THAT was Molly Risso's legacy to me. That discipline frequently got me invited to perform in a number of local community theatre productions without even having to audition, because there are SO many flaky people in the Arts, that having someone reliable is oftentimes more important than talent!
And boy do I miss my friends in the Drama department! And the bevy of beautiful girls who were the objects of many of my own obsessive crushes.
College was where I had my formal training in Art, and where I majored in Broadcast and Film. I learned photography there, too. I loved my Art Professors, Bill Bristow, Phil Evett, and Jim Stoker, all of whom left an indelible mark on me and my work, but my Faculty Advisor, Dr. Manfred K. Wolfram, was a huge influence on me in tying all the creative disciplines together. Like Molly Risso in High School, Dr. Wolfram was often misunderstood by many of his students, but I really connected with him. He gave me permission to really think outside of the box in mediamaking. He introduced me to German Cinema, and the Aesthetics of Sight, Sound, and Motion. His influence is a constant presence in every film or video project upon which I embark. The Col. Muenster character in "Tyrannovision" is my own little German Expressionist tribute to Dr. Wolfram.
I'm married to my college sweetheart. Leann. We have two cats and no kids. I work as a freelance fine/commercial artist, graphic designer, and digital photographer. I'm not the least bit rich or famous...but I'm pretty darned content.
