Barry's Story

After ACHS, I attended Drexel University (formerly Drexel Institute of Technology) and graduated in 1964 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to graduating from Drexel I married Margaretanne Riddle (ACHS class of !961) in June 1963. Today we have 4 grown children (3 boys and a girl) and 14 grandchildren (8 girls and 6 boys ranging in ages 5 years thru 25 years). Our oldest granddaughter graduated from the University of Virginia with both her BA and MA degrees. Upon my graduation from Drexel, I was a nuclear power engineer involved in the construction of 4 nuclear submarines at the New York Shipbuilding Corp., Camden, NJ. In 1966 I was recruited by the U.S Central Intelligence Agency's Special Operations Division. During my time with the CIA we lived in Annapolis, MD. I remained in CIA Special Ops until May 1970 (that's all I can say about that). After leaving the CIA I joined the Vitro Corporation, Silver Springs, MD as a systems engineer involved in the development of the U.S. Navy's submarine launched Polaris, Poseidon and Trident Missile Systems and the Tomahawk Cruise Missile. I remained at Vitro until 1997 when I retired as its President and CEO. Af...Expand for more
ter a short retirement, I was named President and CEO of Allied Aerospace Industries, Inc, a research and development aerospace company, located in Tullahoma, TN. In 2001 I retired again and we moved first to Winchester, VA and then to Keswick, VA which is located 5 miles east of Charlottesville, the home of the University of Virginia. Since 2002 I have served on the Board of Director's of ManTech International Corporation (NASDAQ symbol MANT), a company that provides engineering and management support services to the Department of Defense and to various agencies that comprise the U.S. Intelligence Community (CIA, NSA, DIA, etc). In our spare time Margaretanne and I go to most of our grand kids school and athletic activities; and we workout, travel, play golf and ski. We are both very happy and are very fortunate with all that we have; particularly with our excellent health, our many good friends and with our large family. We especially enjoy our time together with friends and the time we're able to spend with our children and our many grandchildren. Things are never dull when our family is with us, either during our vacations together or over the holidays.
