Barry's Story

For the most part life has been great....It has been about the journey not the destination....After college traveled to europe for 3 months then took a position in retail management in NYC for 6 years with Federated Dept Stores. Company was sold and moved to Minneapolis to work with Target Corp Dept store division from 88 to 91. Father passed away in 86 and my mother pasted away in 90 and moved to Chicago from 91 to 01 working for Sears and Wards....had a great time there. made good friends and went thru my mid life crisis at 38. Jobs enabled me to travel to Asia and Europe frequently...great experience....in meeting people from all countries and backgrounds... As most of you know, We lost Barbara in 93. I spent the next 5 years with my head down staying focused on the job and being focused on the $. After many years of dealing with her death, I have been able to keep it in a perspective that helped me move forward. She left behind a beautiful daughter "Justina" she and I are very close. She is at Penn State as an environmental studies major. I am very proud of her. Hopefully, she will help save our planet.. being a part of the solution. During those years I was in a terrific relationship, we built a great path for the 2 of us. but like all good things it came to an end when my company in 2000 Wards filed Chapter 7 BK and I found myself on vacation not wanting to go home. So I took some time bought a sail boat and sailed for 6 months from Puerto Rico to Venezuela to Cuba to Key West. It was a great 6 months... I docked the boat in Key West for 3 years and put everything in storage and moved on the boat... What a blast..I think the looses in my life led me to this adventure. and again what a blast.... most of you dont know my father was a fisher/boate...Expand for more
r and my brother the same. but since i always have to do thing differently..for me it had to be a sail boat. i sailed a 42' catalina.. she was beautiful her name was after my dad. bluefin he11. I ended up chartering the boat did weddings, burials at sea.. and many good times with some great people.... Once again, all good things come to an end...as I know all too well... life comes and life can be taken.. i almost lost my life in an accident when I was hit by a Van on my bike at 40MPH. on 1/21/03 . long story but i survived it.. i have the scares to prove it.....they are part of me now so decided to join the real working world again and moved to Baltimore where I joined a regional dept store there. the company sold in 06 so I found myself working in the garment center in NYC just off central park south...I had been working for a brand that sells to Penny and Kohls. It was good while it lasted... just a short chapter in my journey...so the company cut back and now I am in the process of opening my own counsutling business focused on improving the bottom line and driving top line revenue for manufacturers and retailers. i hope to have my company up and running in next few months. I am in a great relationship once again, my partner has 2 kids, joseph 12 and maryellen 8. We spend our time mostly weekends at baseball games and family picnics. They are amazing kids..no doubt Joseph will be a 2nd baseman in the majors and Maryellen will be a food critic telling everyone what they did wrong. She's tough....but beautiful... I hope this finds everyone safe, happy and well. Drop me a line if you would like to say hello. all the best. If you have a Barbara story that you would like to tell me that would be great. I would like to be able to pass onto Justina. Barry
