Barry's Story
Hi Guys,
Fifty years has gone by in a blink of an eye. So much has happened. After leaving Barstow in the summer of '61, got a BA in math at UCR, and MA also in math at UCSD. Taught math a year at SDSU. Then toured around Europe one summer. Came back to LA. Was a tennis teaching pro at Griffith Park for a couple of years. Taught math at LA community colleges for about 7 years. Decided to give aerospace a try. More stable income. Got a job at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo as computer programmer working on radar software. Then I switched to satellite systems at TRW in Redondo Beach. By the way I got married to beautiful girl in 1974. We decided to have some kids in 1984. ...Expand for more
So we had our first child, a girl. We moved to Camarillo. Lived there for ten years and had a second child, a boy in 1990. During this time I continued in aerospace working for UNISYS. They closed the plant in 1995. So a got another programming job in Anaheim for Boeing. We moved from Camarillo to Yorba Linda and have been there ever since. Was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2005. Left Boeing in 2006. Went out on medical leave permanently. The disease has not progressed too much since diagnosed, but I sometimes have hand tremors and walk with a limp. Played
tennis actively up to one year ago. Spend most my time watching my wife play tennis and my son who is 21.
