J. Barry Archer, P.E.:  

Life After freshman and sophomore years at McLean High School in McLean, VA and junior and senior years at Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, NC, I continued on to the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA where I received a B.S. in civil engineering in 1968. After graduation, was commissioned as a 2LT in the Army as an Infantry/Special Forces Officer. Went to jump school and Special Forces school. Did the 13 plus months in Vietnam as a Green Beret living/operating with Montagnard tribesmen in the jungle covered mountains of northern I Corps (awarded Combat Infantryman Badge plus 2 Bronze Stars - one for valor and one for meritorious service). Completed four years of active duty. Got married in 1972 and had 3 children (all adults now). After I got off of active duty, worked in northern Virginia from 1972 - 1994 and stayed in Special Forces in the Army Reserves for eight more years retiring as a Major and Master Parachutist.
