Jim (James)'s Story

After High School I joined the Army, only did one tour of duty for three years. Went to basic traing and advanced traing at Ft Ord, Ca. From Ft.Ord I was shipped overseas to Panama where I married for the first time and had one child, a daughter. When I came back to the states to finish my tour I was stationed at Ft.Riley,Ks , while here I lost contact with my wife and daughter due to immigration paperwork and delys. And my wifes refusal to leave her home, and family. That was as much of the midwest I wanted and came home to California! I worked several jobs and raised a lot of hell until I decided on what I wanted to do in life. I went to Riverside City College, with my course study obeing in automotive technology, while going to school I worked at Jimmy's gas station, and at a couple of 7-11's. I also drove truck cross country for a furniture moving company for a short while. While I was still going to RCC I went to work at Montgomery Wards in Riverside Plaza, started out mounting tires and worked my way into a mechanics position where I did pretty well. I met and married my second wife, bought a house and settled down...for the most part anyway! lol While working for Wards I ruptured a disc in my lower back and had to have surgery to make it as good as it could get...of course it was never the same and changed the direction of my life and carrer choice. I retrained as an electronics technicia...Expand for more
n, after graduating from training I worked for a small company in Riverside until a better position with a larger company came along in South Orange county manufacturing add on memory and color graphics boards for personnal computers, while the work was interesting and staedy it was not the kind of job that suited me. I was bored out of my mind sitting day after day testing, configuring and repairing circuit boards. I moved along to a company in Ventura County, that manufactured Hard drives, working closely with engineers and the companys that purchased them as a customer service technicain. I sold my home in Riverside and moved to Simi Valley. Doring the sale of my home I was involved in a hit and run accident. I was hit by a drunk driver on the freeway that put me out of work for almost nine months. After recovering from that I got a job with a company that designed and installed sound systems for Houses of Worship, schools and auditoriums, athletic fields and manufacturing facilties. I worked in this industry for nearly twenty years. Today I am disabled and live in Modesto, Ca. where I enjoy several of my hobbies, such as bowling, and working at building a 1957 Chevy StepSide P.U. Update: October 14, 2016 I was diagnosed with Throat Cancer two weeks ago, it is late in Stage 3 . The Veterans Administration has fast tracked treatment and I will be given Chemo and Radiation therapy................
