My desire to fly aircraft was born when I was about 5 years of age. I began taking private flying lessons at age 20 while enlisted in the USAF. After a few years of getting in and back out & back in ...Expand for more
to flight training, I finally earned my private pilot's license in '81. My 1st college experience involved earning an aircraft mechanic (A&P) license, and I worked turning wrenches for the airlines for 10+ years. Before retiring from the military reserves, I also earned my aviator wings in helicopters (UH1 & UH60). I was fulfilling my dream of a flying career by flying an aeromedical evacuation helicopter (BH412) at Wake Forest University's Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC, but after 4 layoffs in aviation, I've hung up my wings and stored my toolbox away. I'm now a public servant.
Military
Enlisted USAF at age 17; Retired in '00 from the NC Guard with a total of 23 years military service (12 enlisted & 11 commissioned). Highlights were completing OCS at age 31, and earning my Army Aviator wings at Ft. Rucker, AL, at age 34. I'm a "cold war" veteran. Now, I'm just hangin' out waiting for that retirement check to begin showing up in my mail box at age 60!
