Beatrice's Story
Life
I was born (in the Company Houses (called that because they were owned by Carniege Steel Co. on Standard Ave)and raised in Mingo Junction, worked in Nosset's Studio for a year before joining the US Air Force. Met my husband at Barksdale AFB, LA. Move around the country and world for 25 years: Washington state, Okinawa, Dayton,OH, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Northern CA, then here to Ft Walton Beach, FL in 1973.
I always wanted to be a photographer when I grew up. Mr. Hendon was my favorite teacher, and got me started in my career when he started a Camera Club, with a full darkroom in his classroom. I always kept in touch with him and sent him copies of my work, and awards until his death. I started my career as a professionl photographer when I moved here 1973 and worked at that until 1993 when I retired....Expand for more
I photographed many weddings and beach portraits over the years. I was also the official photographer for the Air Force Enlisted Widows Home for 10 years. Bob Hope came to visit and have a benefit show each year and I would get to meet and greet many famous people (see my photos)
Wow, when I look back now on using a hugh speed graphic camera to take pictures at a basketball game, and what you can do with a digital palm size camera now it amazes me!
My other interest is genealogy. I have trace my husbands Daily side of the family back to 1675. I have been able to find relatives on both of my parents sides of the family in Slovakia and have been over to visit with them twice(see my photos). My grandparents came to America from Slovakia in 1897 and 1907 to Brownsville, PA, then to Rush Run then to Mingo
