Mildred's Story

Life I am have been married for almost 16 years now. I never had children but I have a lot of nephews, neices, and great-nephews and neices. I have two dogs, Ruby the labador and Buddy the puddle. I have a step son and six grandsons (yea ALL boys). I have been working for Southern California Edison for over 28 years. My husband has retired and I hope to retire with him soon. We are living in Arizona and hopefully can travel the United States. School I really loved going to HP High. I liked all the folks there and the teachers. Yes, now I can say that because I am older and realize how much everyone in my life back then had an impact in my life now. I think the most inspiring thing that happened to me was being in the ROTC program. It taught me that having an education and a good paying job was very important in life. If I could do it all over again, I would. I think the one think that I miss the most of high school is not staying in touch with all my friends. I hope that this site can put me back in touch with my firends. College Although I never attended a four year college, I have attended junior colleges. After I graduate from HPHS, I attended East LA college. I wanted to become a lawyer. That didn't pan out because of personal needs at home. After working for about 10 or 12 years, I felt it was time to return to school. I started attending Riverside Community College in Riverside and Moreno Valley. I have taken classes that have helped me advance to obtain a better job position and get a better paying position with the company. I may go back to school to obtain a degree some day, but I don't think I really want or need to do that at this time in my life. Workplace My first real job after HPHS was working the the bill processing center at SEARS in Alhambra. I worked there for about two years. Then I went on to work for Southern Ca...Expand for more
lifornia Edison where I am still employed, 28+ years. I can't believe it's been that long already. 2007 proved to be a very productive year in my family. I gained 2 great-nephews, 2 great-nieces and 1 granson. And on January 6, 2008 my 3rd great-niece arrived a little late. She was suppose to come into this world on December 29, 2007 but she was wanted to do things on her terms just like her mother. I love the fact that I got so many babies in my family this past year. I just wish I could see them all more often then I do. My family is very spread out so we don't get to see each other very much. Please take a look at my photos to see all the new babies. I always wanted to be a lawyer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a farfetched idea. As it turns out, they were right. I guess I didn't realize at the time how much school it would take and how much money it would take to get the education I needed. My family did not have the money to send me to school so had to work for a living. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Margie Alva, because she was an inspiration to me. She and her family helped me out in my senior year by letting me live with them for a while when I had nowhere to go. I looked up to this family because they were a loving bunch of folks and they really cared about each other and me. My first job was at Sears, where I got paid just over the minimun wage to do accounting. I worked there for almost two years and became very good on the 10-key. What I remember most about it is the fine people I worked with. This is where I learned that you have family that you choose. When I left Sears to work at Southern California Edison, my friends were very happy for me. They knew that I was going to a better paying job and they knew that I would do good there because I was a hard worker at Sears.
