Becki's Story
Oh what a ride this has been and continues to be! Unfortunately, I have not traveled as much as I had hoped to, but instead, turned out to be a homebody!
Currently, I am working as a teacher assistant/receptionist/bus driver for White Oak Elementary School in Cape Carteret, N. C. I have only one more year before I will be elligible for full retirement. I have already started my retirement business. Three years ago I had the opportunity to purchase a "failing" business out of New Bern. It is Carolina Basketry (a passion of mine is basket weaving). I bought the business, moved it to the Swansboro area and started rebuilding it, with the help of my friend Scott. Each year things have grown a little more. When I can retire, I will be in the shop full time and teaching more. We will also be traveling all over the country vending at state conventions. If you are not familiar with basket weaving today, you would be surprised at how the old, traditional art has changed. If you attend festivals in the state, please keep an eye out for me. l children. My son, by marriage and remained after divorce, is David Newsome. He lives in Raleigh with his two sons, Jonathan and Tyler. David works for the Raleigh Housing Authority as a project manager. They are the apples of my eye. My beautiful daughter, Jennifer Newsome, lives in Charlotte. She is a manager and trainer for Red Robin Restaurants. She is outgoing and the life of the party! As any mother would feel, they are beautiful children!
I have been divorced for the past 20+ years. As you can guess, I have become quite independent!
I do have to add that I am happy with my life. I wish that I had had a life partner, but that does not work out for everyone. However, at this time in my life, I am happy with being single and independent.
