Becky's Story
Life
Single again after a 20 year marriage with a former SHHS Classmate. I have four grown children and am loving being a Grandmother and a Great Grandmother, too. Career wise, when the kids were little, I began a career in real estate and have had experience in all phases of the industry. After being on the management side for over 10 years, I decided it was time again to get back into sales, and am enjoying it immensely, Celebrating over 35 years now in Real Estate and am back with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate, Gary Greene. They bought a company in 2019 that I had been affiliated with for 13 years.
I still have family ties to South Houston, as my younger sister lives in the house we all grew up in.
School
During that period of my life, high school played an important role in stabilizing a very chaotic home life and there were several teachers whom I admired and respected. Among those that inspired me to do better were Mr. Richard Lindsey, one of our Senior Class Sponsors and a favorite English Teacher, and Mr. Richard T. (Tom) Myers, who was my choir director and main mentor from Junior High until Graduation and beyond. He pushed us hard and never let us do less than our best. Also, Mrs. Carolyn Perry, who was our homeroom teacher for 3 years and had to put up with some antics in homeroom from me, Tim Tingle, Roy Castillo, Candy Jones, Susie Covington, and others. After having children of my own, I always think back on some of the...Expand for more
'extra-curricular' activities we did and realize that in today's world, they would have been ruled as totally inappropriate. For example, in Junior High, how many of us attended Mr. Tom Bowen's annual Beach Parties? And in high school, our Biology "field trips" to Galveston to search for salt water species with Mr. Mack Neal were infamous, besides being educational and fun at the same time. I would never let my own kids do things like that now. Some of my best memories had to do with Choir activities - like the Musicals, Contests, Madrigal Performances.(We got to skip class to perform at luncheons, churches, Rotary and Lions' Club events, etc.) Was fun except for having to make sure that our long, 'stringy' hair was put up and off our faces each time, and wandering through the halls in the middle of the day in semi-formal attire - long gloves, satin heels, etc. Kathy Prince and I ended up sitting beside each other in Mr. Chaney Anderson's Geometry Class and were totally lost the entire semester. I never felt so stupid! I think I finally figured it out about 2 weeks before school was over and ended up passing with a very low "D", which I'm sure Mr. Anderson just 'gave' to us as insurance that he would not have to teach us again that following year. There are many more stories I'd love to share, but it would involve secrets that I'm not sure my closest friends would want revealed, so it will be up to them to spill the beans on those memories..
