Becky's Story

We live in paradise, New Zealand. We have five wonderful children and fifteen grandchildren, three of them being a "miracle". My children taught me my own imperfections. My grandchildren give me the opportunity to get it right this time around. We live in Hamilton, in a Modern Japanese style home that we are slowly transforming to modern rustic. My husband, Carl and I both retired some time ago.. We have served as full time missionaries at the New Zealand, Hamilton, Temple, and plan on serving as many missions as we can, wherever the Lord sends us, while health permits. Cleaning the oven is a sure signal to my husband that I'm upset about something. Fortunately, that doesn't happen often because it's my least favorite job. Surprisingly, the oven isn't too dirty. My inspiration comes from nature and all things beautiful. It also comes from the innocence of small children. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Mr. Mielcarek, because he not only taught me biology and botany, but also a lot about myself. My current age is 73. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be reaping the benefits of hard work, I was so completely right. My first job was at Zion Nat'l. nd board and tips to clean cabins, wait tables, and cashier in the craft shop. What I remember most about it is the wonderful people, Latter Day Saints, beautiful scenery, and my most fantastic summer ever! Growing up, most week ends were spent camping and hiking with my family. I credit my parents for my appreciation of the outdoors, which resulted in my developing a landscaping company. We live in New Zealand for a couple of reasons...living in Ohio, my husband's home state, caused me major sinus problems from the pollution. I wanted clean fresh air. The other reason was that we were not very happy with the education system in America, not to mention the politics. New Zealand certainly has clean air, the education system was a vast improvement at the time, (not so great now, 30 plus years later), and politics is politics everywhere, I guess. My obsession is family history. I spend hours and hours doing genealogy. I am addicted! The most interesting trophy I have, (had, since one of my grandsons has claimed it) was a red model car that I won for being the fastest driver on the winning team of an indoor go-cart rally. I didn't realize that I could be so ruthless! I hope my friends remember me as conscientious and with the utmost integrity.
