Becky's Story

Hello to all of my classmates and friends from my school years, in Mobile! I attended 1st grade 1958-59, at Davis Private School (was downtown, on Washington Ave. across from Washington Square), 2nd - 6th grades 1959-65 at Mertz Elementary School, 7th - 9th grades 1965-68 at Mae Eanes Junior High School. and 10th - 12th grades 1968-71, and graduating in 1971, from Theodore High School in Theodore, Al. I also attended University of South Alabama, where I majored in Biology, minored in Psychology, graduating from Mastin School of Nursing, as a Registered Nurse in 1976. After a great career of patient care and nursing education at University of South Alabama Medical Center, Providence Hospital, Doctor's Hospital, Comprehensive Nursing Service (contract traveling nurse provider), Mobile Infirmary, Springhill Memorial Hospital, Health Care Training Institute (instructor), Mobile Surgery Center and Knollwood Park Hospital, and entered early retirement in 1996, following a debilitating back injury, after trying to help transfer a patient who lost his balance, to his bed. In 1981. When I was born in 1954, my parents Herbert and Lillian Kittrell Barnett, lived on St. Stephens Rd., in Toulminville, which was a suburb of Mobile, Al. After living thee for the first five years of my life, my parents, little sister Tracey (1957) and I moved into midtown Mobile, on Shannon St., whee we made many new friends. The house we lived was my uncle and aunt's (Cecil and Josie Hawkshead Kittrell) house. After a short time ther, we needed more room, for a growing family, so my parents bought a home right around the corner, on Howell Ave., which was good, still in walking distance to Mertz, and still close to my friends in the area. After living there for a year or two, we were blessed with a new baby sister, Lisa, and our house was now full of music, silly girls and lots of fun. After I completed the ninth grade in 1968, there was a lot of racial conflict in the public schools, and it also involved students being bused to and from schools that were racially prominent, causing terrible unrest, and violence. It was at this time my parents ...Expand for more
decided to move to an area where I wouldn't be forced to attend a school that was way out of our district. Cypress shores was a nice quiet nerghborhood, with lots of new families, to meet and know. I attended Theodore High, and graduated from there. I began work as a senior in high school, at Walgreen's Drug Store, at Government and Catherine Sts, and started college in the fall of 71. After my first year, I begin work at the Mobile Press Register in accounting, and made many new friends there. After taking a few quarters off from University of South Alabama, before beginning the classes for my mursibg school requirements, at Mastin School of Nursing, in the fall of 73. Finally, I ggraduated from Mastin, in May of 76. That was where I began work as a registered nurse. I met and married Mike Yarbrou (McGill 73), on Sept. 29, 1981. I have 2 children, Bethany Yarbrough Gates and Baird Barnett Yarbrough who also attended Theodore High. We reside in Mobile, Al., and are planning to move to Baldwin County in August of 2012. I am a housewife, my interests are lighthouse collectibles, art, music, and traveling. I also enjoy social networking. Also, genealogy and historical and biblical research are of interest.to me. Because of disability and low vision blindnessa complication of adults onset diabetes (diagnosed in 1990, my driving ability has ceased, but I do so much enjoy visiting and social functions with friends and family. The utmost joy in my life is spending time with family, especially since the birth of my first grandchildren (to daughter Bethany and her husband Marc Gates), twins Makayla Ellen and Callen Michael Gates, on July 21, 2010. Our lives were forever blessed by their arrival, and I am so much in love with them both. They call me BeBe, and are our little angels! Well, that pretty much covers the subject of my story, but I would love to hear from everyone, to hear about where life has taken you, and how you are doing, now! Contact me by private email on this site, and I will pass along contact info, like email or cell number, find me on Facebook. Hope to hear from ya soon! Hugs! Becky Barnett Yarbrough
