Arthur's Story
After H.S., I spent 3 1/2 years as a jet engine mech. in the USAF, majored in engineering for 1 year at LACC, switched to Zoology, & got a B.S. from L.A. State. Then I attended UCLA Medical School for almost a year in 1963, but left to go to Fuller & Talbot Seminaries, receiving an M. Div. degree. I became a Mennonite Brethren associate pastor for three years in L.A. & a senior pastor for 4 1/2 years in Wasco, CA. I resigned that pastorate, over denominational differences re military service, during the Viet Nam War. Then I went to CSUN to earn CA Teacher's Credentials in Biology, English (Secondary) & Multiple Subjects (Elementary).
I taught JHS Science & English for six years, Continuation HS Math & Science for 1 year, & 3rd Grade for 18 years (in Beaumont, CA). I retired in 2003.
In 1963 I married Martha Steele, from Wilson H.S., so we just celebrated our 46th wedding anniv...Expand for more
ersary. She has an M.S. in elementary ed, & just retired after 25 years of elementary education in Banning, CA.
We have two daughters, Marie (M.S., Speech & Language Pathology) & Ann (M.S., Occupational Therapy). They're both practicing their professions in school districts. Ann has 1 son, & is expecting another in June, while Marie is still praying for her first child.
We have traveled widely, both stateside & overseas, including 6 weeks of teaching ESL in Urumqi, China in 2004. My favorite place to visit is the British Museum & Library in London, which we've visited three times.
Our whole family, including both sons-in-law, are committed, born-again, Christians, & we're all actively serving the Lord in our churches & financially supporting various missionaries.
We enjoyed attending our class's 50-year reunion in '05, & thank those who worked so hard to make it a success.
