Belinda's Story
Life
Life after high school. Well, let's see...worked in Englewood running my dad's surf shop (Bikes and Boards). In 1990 I enlisted in the Air Force as a weather specialist and got married.
I was moved to Illinois, then Hawaii, got divorced in 1994.
I then switched careers and became a paralegal in the Air Force and was moved to Texas. Did I mention I got married there too? That was in 1997. I got to play step mom which was great! Then I got moved to Washington, D.C. and bought a house in Maryland. Got divorced...yes, again!
Sold that house and got out of the Air Force in 2000 and went into the Air Force Reserves in the same year. Then I moved back to Colorado (where I was born) ..they don't know what ya'll means there! Go figure?
I started my own business on the side as a Forensic Meteorologist! (Yes, there is a method to my madness). I also worked full time at the National Center for Atmospheric Research here in Boulder, CO. I completed my 2nd bachelor's in Geoscience/ Meteorology and just bought a house in 2004 and FINALLY settled down. Oh yeah, I learned how to snow ski...sort of. Anyway, that's my life in a nut shell.
Wanted kids but it never happened. I guess I'm too old now so that will be one regret I suppose. You just never know what life has in store for you.
In May 2007, I moved to the Oregon coast and opened up a bed & breakfast called "Caledonia House B&B" with my boyfriend. Check out Caledoniabb dot com for the rest of the story.
I love it here in Oregon! It's so green, not too hot and the people are really nice...genuinely!
I also work full time at a local bank. It helps pay the bills while we get the business going. I still do the Air Force Reserves (at least for another year or so when I retire).
I'm not sure what I will move on to after the B&B thing gets old, but I think I want to move to a much smaller place and live a quiet life doing gardening and photography. I suppose then I'll have time to finish writing my book!
School
My biggest crush? It's pretty obvious...Chuck 4 ever! ;o) We're still friends to this day.
Which teacher inspired me? That has to be Dr. Gregg Sinner. I recently wrote him an e-mail at Brown University thanking him for helping me get where I am ...Expand for more
today.
My best school memory? I think there were a few. Making Captain of the Color Guard and doing a solo performance which the Gibson Guard's intructors complimented me on was a good feeling.
I was in a pageant once. That was hilarious. I didn't have all the expensive dresses, etc. that everyone else had. I also had a bit of a lisp. Wouldn't you know that when we got assigned sponsors to give a speech about, mine was (no lie) "San Casa Sun Systems". Say that one three times fast! So much for my Miss America career...joined the military instead!
Getting stood up for Jr Prom wasn't a great memory but I'm glad I went anyway.
(Amie will remember this one). Taking my mom's convertable Chrystler LaBaron and jumping bridges to get to a party by midnight on New Year's eve - my mom still reminds me about that from time to time. And she thought I was a good girl.
Having good friends that stood by me no matter what was what really meant the most to me.
I honestly don't have a lot of recollection from High School. I don't know how people would remember me. It's like an out of body experience for me. I would hope that people saw me as kind, but I'm sure others might not have. I'm pretty much a give what you get kind of person...you know, the Golden Rule thing.
Military
I joined the Air Force in 1990 and went to Lackland AFB for basic training in July 1990. After completion, I went to Chanute AFB, IL for tech school as a Weather Specialist.
I was then stationed at Scott AFB, IL at MAC HQ in the Weather Support Unit. From there (1992), I volunteered to do 4 years of Army Support in Oahu, Hawaii where I deployed to Haiti and other locations for about 1 year out of the 4 I was there.
I then changed career fields and became a Paralegal in the JAG corps. (Yes, just like on TV except without the good looking lawyers). I went to JAG school in 1996 and was stationed at Randolph AFB, TX from 1995-1997.
From there I moved to Washington, DC until I separated from active duty in July 2000. I then moved back to Colorado and am in the USAF Reserves and was stationed at Buckley AFB as a paralegal.
Since 2007 I've been stationed at McChord AFB, Washington. I'm 2 years shy of RETIREMENT!!!
That's basically it.
