Belinda's Story
I never planned to go to college after high school, but three years later I changed my mind. After I got my degree, I taught for a couple of years in Oregon. Then marriage took me overseas to Norway where finding a teaching job was easier than I thought. I've been teaching here ever since. This year I'm a reading assessment administrator for grades K-5, an EAL teacher for grades K-8, and I run a photography club for middle schoolers.
I've lived in Norway for the past sixteen years, in between a short time when we had an apartment in Burgos, Spain, and another time when we lived for a few weeks in a B&B in New Brunswick, Canada. My husband Jorma's job as a chemical engineer in an aquaculture research laboratory gave us these opportunities to live and work outside Norway on short term assignments. I've also done a fair bit of travelling to places like Germany, Denmark, Holland, Austria, Sw...Expand for more
eden, Finland, France, Switzerland, South Korea, Eastern Canada, and several US states. In spite of all the travelling we've done, I'm happiest when I'm at home working in my garden, taking photos, or going on picnics with my family.
After spoiling various dogs, we finally started a family when we brought our first child home from Korea in 2001, a baby boy we named Kai. Our daughter Leonie came home two years later, also from Korea. Ours is a multi-lingual household. Jorma is originally from Finland, so he speaks Finnish daily when he talks on the phone and anytime he's with Finnish family or friends. Otherwise, it's a fairly even mixture of Norwegian and English in our home.
Kai is now seven years old and in the second grade. Leonie is five years old and in kindergarten. We have a dachshund named Sarah Jane, two zebra finches named Thor and Charlotte, and an unknown quantity of fish.
