Beth's Story
Oh my! Well, most have probably already figured out I didn't graduate at Hernando High School. I was born and grew up in Brooksville and attended every grade through the freshman year. My Dad moved us to Inverness, then Dade City and finally we settled in Stuart (on the east coast) where I graduated. I was shy and didn't stand out much with flame red hair and freckles. Shheesh! Some of you that were in band may remember, I played french horn and got to sit next to Eddie Webb! smile!
I married very quickly after graduation and started a family when my husband came back from Vietnam in 1969. I had two boys and a girl and now have three grandchildren. After divorce and several years I joined the Navy in 1981 and served...Expand for more
six years, first as a Yeoman, then Air Traffic Controller. I
fell in love (again) and stayed in South Texas after my discharge for almost 20 years. I came to North Carolina after my second divorce and have been here now for over six years.
Some time, soon I hope, my sweetheart and I want to come back to Florida to retire. He lived there for almost 40 years. He attended Howey-in-the-hills Academy, so he has a love for Florida as well. Some day soon!
There's no substitute for hometown and I feel a deep connection to Brooksville, even though many won't remember me, I still go back as often as I can. I can't believe how it's changed. My Mom and Dad and all my grandparents are buried there, so it's my roots!
