Beth's Story

I graduated and went into the Army for three years. I met my first husband while at Ft. Knox, married him when I got out of the service and had two boys, Josh and Alan. Unfortunately, he was not the man I thought he was and we divorced. I met my current husband four years later, we married two years after that and have been married for almost 16 years this month (June). I work as a medical transcriptionist for a cardiology group here in Ohio. My husband is a high school administrator. We have two dogs, Lucy and Freddie, and a pretty great life. I love my family and friends and try to connect whenever I can. I relax by reading, doing counted cross stitch for friends and family, antique hunting with my husband and I love to watch movies. All my inspiration comes from my grandfather who passed away in 1973. He was my rock throughout my life up until he died and I still look back to my memories of him to get me through the everyday garbage that sometimes comes my way. I have lived in Ohio since I got out of the Army in 1980. I have wanted to move to the east coast, but I have stayed here, first because of my boys and then because of my current husband and his family. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Deb Baye, because she was my best friend for dozens of years. I love reality TV. I never thought I would watch it, but once I did, I was hooked. My favorites include: The Bachelor, American Idol, Top Chef, Project Runway and Last Comic Standing, but I will watch others if they happen to catch my attention. Love my puppies, too. ssell and Freddie is a one year old Miniature Schnauzer. They are the loves of my life. The biggest surprise I have had in my life is my bout with cancer. My mom died of cervical cancer at age 59 in 2000. Then in 2004, I had breast cancer. I went through the surgery, the chemo (losing my hair and feeling like crap most of the time) and radiation. It's been four years and I am fine. You just never know what is going to happen. You have to remain positive and carry on. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my bathroom and add on a a huge addition to my kitchen. My dream home would be in Manhattan or on the beach in Florida. The biggest thing I have learned from my boys is that you cannot live their lives for them. You can try to guide them as much as possible, but you have to let them learn from their mistakes. It's the only way they will grow. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to cancer research, then spend the rest on my boys, my closest friends and myself. My current age is 48. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be ready to die. I was so completely wrong. My best friend would tell you I'm dependable, headstrong and loyal, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a witch. Deb - we met in the apartment complex we lived in in Utica. We laughed and cried together. We wanted to get out and do better for ourselves. We lost contact for awhile, but reconnected a while back and it was like we never missed a beat. We have since lost contact. I miss her and wish I could share all the ups and downs I have had in the last eight years.
