Betsy's Story
A little about me now... I've been married to my best friend Allen for 20 years and we have 6 awesome kids, five of our own and one we are raising for a friend. We've had him since he was 10 and he is now 16. I've been homeschooling them all for the last 10 years. Our oldest will be attending SUU in the fall of '08 and our youngest is almost 9. We have 3 boys and 3 girls.
My husband is a chiropractor (just like my dad), he also designed a cultured fence system that is going very well. I run a small homeschooling business where I sell topic themed journaling pages for the kids to create beautiful notebooks. The method is called "notebooking", my business is called Notebooking Nook. I'm just getting my feet wet with running a small business, but it's been fun. Our family also runs a small commercial dog kennel and we breed 9 different types of AKC dogs. Our 2 favorites are the Rottweiler and Mini Schnauzer. We have this business to keep our kids from being lazy : ) It's been really good...Expand for more
for them to learn how to work and learn a little about running a family business. We are looking forward to shutting it down though once all the kids are gone... it is a lot work! Oh, we do live on 12 acres, which makes this kind of a thing possible for us.
We lost our home to a house fire December 10, 2007, which was about 6 weeks ago. It is still a little shocking but we are moving on. We are excited to start rebuilding, which we are hoping will be in the next 4-5 weeks. We were able to get out most of our photos and some other important things, thankfully!
My husband and I are planning on retiring on a catamaran and do a lot of diving and cruising around during 6 months of the year. Of course, it won't be for about 10-12 years, but this gives us time to learn. Some of our friends think we are crazy but they are not surprised either. We do a lot of traveling and we love spending time learning about other cultures and hanging out with locals from all over the world. We can't wait!
