Betty's Story
Life
I worked for a short time as a child care giver. Then in Sept of 71' I began Missionary work for about 2 yrs. I met my husband Charles (Chuck) in early 73' but we didn't do any real dating until Oct 73' when he got out of the Air Force. We were married on Feb 23, 1974. We have 5 children, Natasha, Leeland, Morgan, Andrew & Samantha. Natasha married 7/20/1996 and has given us two grandchildren, Nikita & Natalya.

My son Andrew, who has been our challenging child... married a cute little Alaska Athabascan girl. They had an outdoor wedding, and it poured rain through they entire ceremony. Being true Alaskans it didn't stop us from having a beautiful wedding.
School
In 1990, my husband Chuck had just finished his paralegal certificate from the University of San Diego. I really needed to do something else. College
The technical school I went to was right here is Anchorage, ACS. I started on Oct 90 and finished in Mar 91. I graduated at the top of the class with a certificate in Computerized Accounting.
Know something funny.... I have never had a job where I got to use my accounting skills!
Workplace
From 1977 until 1990 I worked in our home to care for our children. I was a licensed Family Child Care Giver and helped to establish the Non-profit organization The Alaska Family Child Care Society. In 1990 I went to school and then signed up with Kelley Services.
I worked for them about 3 months when I took a temp job at United Utilities Inc. 3 months into the job I was offered full time employment with them. I have now been with UUI since Oct 1991.
2/2008 - UUI is in the process of being purchased by GCI. We are all still trying to get used to the idea. UUI has put in quite a presence in bush Alaska, having built an incredible communication network that we call DeltaNet.
