Betty's Story
After graduating from McKeesport High School in 1956, I was hired by Westinghouse Electric as a Patent Stenographer. In 1957 I married Dr. Arthur Sharpe Stewart, had 2 children, Tom Arthur(deceased 6/2001) and Clarice, who I now live with.
After my marriage, I worked as Assistant to the Director of Public Relations at the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland,
PA as the Director of the PA and Forensic Music Association state competition for the high school bands and choruses. As a member of the chorus, I was In the competitian for 3 years, Sophomore, Junior and Senior. It was not a job, it was a position. I worked in that capacity for 18 months until my son was born. I was very privileged to be a stay-at-home mother for their early years and love and enjoy them, something that unfortunately is very rare today.
During this period I was appointed to serve on several State and Federal Boards and Committees. I was elected to serve on a School Board for six years, when there were very few women serving in this elected position. Shortly after the election I was approached and offered the position of President of the Council of Republican Women for the State of Pennsylvania, which I declined.
During my term on the School Board, I was approached to run for County Commissioner. After much discussion with family and friends, I decided to go for it. I lost the election. I placed fourth in an election for three new Commissioners, only because my voting district did NOT vote for me because they didn't want me to leave the School Board. A bittersweet moment.
I loved this part of my life because "I" was able to "make a difference". Everyone should run for at least one elected office in their lifetime. It is an experience you will never forget.
As my children got older, I studied to become a Registered Professional Court Reporter and opened up my business in downtown Pittsburgh.
Several years after this I divorced and the children and I moved to Lancaster, Pa. I took six months off to figure out where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do.
A year and a half after my divorce I married Albert Samuel Marshal. We were married 36 years when he passed away May 7, 2013. On that day I lodt my best friend, my soulmate, my lover and the love of my life. I am still struggling to deal with his absence. I miss his beautiful smile that lit up the whole room, his laughter, and his hugs. I have learned to live each day to its fullest, take one day at a time, and tell the people you love how you feel about them; tomorrow is not promised.
I have very fond memories of our little town of McKeesport and the people who lived there. It was a safe town, a friendly town, and everyone knew their neighbors. And when someone needed help, there was always someone there.. Unfortunately, we do not live in a world that comes anywhere near the freedom, safety and trust we enjoyed in little old McKeesport, Pa. with all the uncertainties that exist today and growing minute by minute.

able to find my "forever love"
I gave almost a year to please my family and friends. I am in no hurry. I am going to sit back and let that someone special find me. I refuse to change my requirements.
UPDATED - NOVEMBER 13, 2016
This year had its number of ups and downs, my daughter was in the hospital for a month and a half and home for six months, my granddaughter was in the hospital for minor surgery, I was in the hospital for irregular heart beats and it was recommended that I have a defibrillator placed in my chest. The good news is we all recuperated and are back to living.
In September I almost married a wonderful Scottish Geologist who I had been dating a little over a year and we were going to divide our time between Glasglow, Scotland and West Chester, Pa, his US residence. Somehow, I just can't take that last step to permanency. I had such a great marriage to my second husband, Albert, that I just can't give him up. My daughter and granddaughter call me "the runaway bride" because this is the third time this has happened.
I am beginning to make some major changes in my life. The time has come to separate myself from my daughter and granddaughter and spend the next year alone and do all the the things left on my bucket list. I am 100% Irish, love to listen to Celtic Woman, I am friends with Daithi Rua, a popular Irish singer, but I have never been to Ireland. That is one of the countries I plan to visit this year.
Nashville, I have been there once with a man I should have married about a year after Al died. He was a man of many hats, a medical doctor, an architect that renovated 4 hospitals in NYC and brought them back to 4 of the best in the US, was the recipient of a Lincoln Center award for his contribution to medicine to help people with neurological diseases thru the use of music, and he was song writer and composer. He was a CEO and he quit everything for two years and went to Nashville, bought a recording studio and went to work. His song that was the most famous is called "Love Is", and it was in the top 10 for over a year when he first wrote it. Many artists have recorded it but our favorite is the one done by Vanessa Williams. He turned me loose once in his studio and I was in heaven. I want to go back to Nashville and spend more time. If you are a member on facebook, I have posted a tribute to him when he died several months ago. There is a picture of him on my classmates pictures. His name was Dr. Arnold H. Goldstein. My facebook address is "Betty Baillie-Stewart-Marshal". He was the third, and last, love of my life.
I have rented a small home on the main street in a town at the base of a mountain in the Beautiful Blue Mountains , with the beauty of the Susquehanna River at the base. There is nothing across the street from me and I have a beautiful view. The name of the town is Marysville, PA. It is located in Perry County. I plan to live here until the last bell rings. I attended the United Methodist Church today, several blocks from my new home, the first time in years. It was wonderful, and the people were very friendly and welcoming. On Wednesday night I will be joining the choir, something that I did until I married at the Beulah Park Methodist Church in Grandview. I also plan to join Bible Study.
Look for another update in six months, God willing.
