Beverly's Story

After graduation I married Gary Trego '66. We moved to Houma, LA in 1969 and divorced March 10, 1971, My son Geren (only child) was born 17 days later March 27, 1971. Geren and I MOVED BACK to Farmington that April. After working as a secretary and taking nite classes, we moved to Albuquerque, where I studied Nursing 1973-1977, but I MOVED BACK to Farmington every summer and went back to Farmington every other weekend. I got my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1977 and...you guessed it - I MOVED BACK to Farmington. After working at San Juan Regional as an ER nurse, I decided I needed a change and Geren and I moved to San Diego. We loved it..except all the babysitters there are certified by the state as they walk out of the state institution for the criminally insane. So what did I do after 1 year in San Diego? I MOVED BACK to Farmington and worked as an RN at San Juan Regional Medical Center, then started a business providing Continuing Education for Health Care professionals. While doing that my business partner and I set up a Home Health Agency for a group of doctors. That was an experience. After 6 months of hard work, we made it through the federal hoops for Medicare/Medicaid approval. This is like winning an EMMY, an OSCAR etc.,etc. 6 months later the group closed the business. After a short period of hair pulling (mine, not theirs) and nail biting (again - mine), I went to work at Shiprock Indian Health Service...Expand for more
Hospital. In 1990, I moved to Tucson, AZ working as an ICU nurse at the Tucson VA hospital. I was missing Farmington so badly after a year, I wanted to MOVE BACK to Farmington. But, I didn't. Geren moved to Tucson, met Tina Veitenheimer and they married in 1992. I then had a wonderful son and a wonderful daughter (in-law) and then Dillon was born in 1993 and Cody was born in 1995. What a family! Fantastic! I attended the University of Arizona College of Nursing for my Masters Degree in Nursing. Couldn't quite get my thesis done because I was caring for my mom as her health declined until her death in 2001. You might have been reading the story of an honest-to-God nurse with a master's degree. I know, I know, it's no big deal! After that, it really didn't seem like a big deal to me so I didn't go back. I lived in Tucson 16 years before moving to Folsom,CA to work at the Sacramento VA. My grand plan was to move to CA, make big salary, retire with more money and live happily ever after. However, I was injured on the job 4 1/2 months after starting and have been unable to work since. But I finally found a man wonderful enough for me to consider marrying after 37 years. I married Gary Zanardi, the fantastic man that I love Aug. 2, 2008 Now, I miss Tucson so badly and I want to MOVE BACK to Tucson, but we can't, His parents are in their 80s and can't be left alone. Who knows? Maybe someday, I will MOVE BACK to Farmington!
