Beverly's Story
I lived in the Heights, on Heights Boulevard, during my junior high and senior high years, graduating from Reagan High School in 1958.
After graduation I worked at Tennessee Gas, where I met Joe Starr, and married him in 1960.
In 1964, we moved to Fort Worth, TX, where Joe attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated with a music degree. While there, I was enrolled in a few classes, audited some, was secretary to the Chairman of the Christian Ethics Department and chapel secretary, as well as being ‘mom’ to our two little boys, Jeff and Clay.
We moved to Nashville, AR, where Joe was minister of music, education, and youth at First Baptist Church for 13+ years. Our home was nearly always filled with teenagers, which we loved. Hundreds of pans of brownies and pitchers of sweet tea were served during those years. Many who are now in their 60s, are still considered our ‘kids’.

s writing a weekly newspaper article.
I was a nursing center administrator for 8 years and our daughter, Ashley, was born in 1983. I resigned to stay home with her.
My love for baking enabled me to (twice) be one of one hundred finalists in the Pillsbury Bake-Off – once going to Disney World, and later to Hollywood.
My passion the last 16 years has been volunteering with Operation Christmas Child, a Christian humanitarian organization, and a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. I coordinate the Collection Center for Southwest Arkansas.
Shoe boxes are filled with small toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and clothing and sent to some of the neediest children in the world, letting them know that someone cares for them, and that God loves them.
Last year our rural area of Southwest Arkansas packed and sent 19,000+ shoe boxes. It is such a blessing for us to be able to serve the Lord in this capacity.
I love to travel, and through the years I have participated in several mission trips, including Spain, Mexico, and Guatemala, as well as stateside.
We thoroughly enjoy and are blessed by our family, including 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
