Beverly's Story
Life
What to write.....I am married and have been for the last 40 years. Bill and I have three children. Brie is 38 and is planning to move to a larger city to start her photography business since the economy took a dive most likely she will go to Seattle instead of California which was her hope. Russell is 35 and currrently a victim of the economic crunch. Mark is 31 and he works in Seattle. None are married yet....so no grandchildren. However, over the years our family has hosted 16 high school age exchange students, the countries are Sweden, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Russia, Finland, Norway, The Netherlands, Australia, and Switzerland with several duplicates.
It has been a great experience and I keep in touch with all of them so there are "Grandkids among them" and I have also a couple of "adopted Grandkids" that I have collected along the way. (You have to do something if your own don't cooperate :)) We also have hosted three Japanese teachers that have come to our area with Compass USA three different summers with groups from Shuei High School in Ciba City. We will host again this summer (last summer they did not come due to SWINE FLU). The groups come for three weeks on their only vacation during the summer to experience the USA and our language and customs. Hosting the teachers has been a real treat....for them and for us sin...Expand for more
ce we are used to adjusting our language complexity to the abilities of our guests. They are really relieved because they have, for the most part, not used their English since High School and it is a bit rusty. It really enriches our lives to host. I have worked in the past as a regional manager for an Information Company, and over the past few years have been training in Compassionate Ministries in my church. It has been quite the experience to go back to college level classes after not being in the system since I graduated from United States International University (which no longer exists) in 1969 with my teaching credentials.
I also work as a Community Representative for STS which is one of the exchange groups we have hosted students through. We have worked and hosted with Foreign Exchange since 1997 first with AYUSA, and now with STS.
My husband is now retired but doing part time demo work with one of the companies he used to represent in sales.
I guess you can say that our lives have been blessed by family and by our connections with the world. We would not have missed it for anything!
Our family also has 2 cats and three dogs currently so it is busy around here constantly!!
I think about Morse, and all of you....and wonder where some of the others are. Hopefully more of us will think back and connect. Our best to you all. Bev
