Ligaya's Story

Life Got married early but am very happy, starting to enjoy life in the 40's now! Married to Norman Anthony Deitz Canta. Met him in Manila, Philippines Christmas 1984 (during my vacation with cousins MaryAnn and Angie Desuyo). Norman and I then had a little over a year of long distance relationship. Then got married on Feb 15, 1986. Who'd thought we'd make it this far, 20 years now!! Renewed our wedding vows and received Sacrament of Marriage last year (April 2005). Norman is not only good looking, but a wonderful husband, a great father and older brother to our kids, and my soulmate! See photos. We have 2 children (no longer kids): VAUGHN (just turned 19 on Oct 7) - graduated from Laguna Creek HS, Class of 2006. Now his Freshman year at Yuba City college in Marysville, playing Basketball. He's been playing basketball and soccer since 5 years old. Now focused on basketball and pursuing to play for a Division 1 college, majoring in Business or Media/Communications. See photos. CHLOE (16) - now a Junior at Laguna Creek HS. Also into sports playing soccer (since 5 yrs old) and a goalkeeper for the Varsity team since her freshman year. She also started to play Tennis this year and did pretty well this season. Very academically focused, she's already preparing for college and wants to go "back home" to Massachusetts (where she was born) and hope to get in to Boston University; or UCLA. See photos. After high school and 2 1/2 yrs of JC then working full time in the bay area, I moved to Massachusetts. Norman and I lived and uprooted our kids there for almost 16 years. Came back to CA 2 years ago. We now live in Elk Grove, south of Sacramento. One friend from high school I am able to stay in touch with is Maria Kalagayan. She and my family (Norman, Vaughn & Chloe) try to see each other at least once a year, especially now that I'm back in California. School I did have a couple of guy (friends) who I had a crush on but didn't go out with, but I will never tell !! Was a bit shy and quiet, for some of you who knew me well enough. Had a lot of fun hanging out with my cousins, MaryAnn and Angie and the core circle of friends especially in my senior year, along with friends from St. Catherine's youth group. Two of my favorite teachers were Mr. Dennis (Biology) and Mrs. Walsh (English). Many of the students, including some of who I knew, really gave her a hard time, made fun of her because of her face burns - I will always remember her because she helped me stay at Hogan High when I was supposed ...Expand for more
to be at Vallejo High. She's really contributed to my writing and communication skills. If I had to do it all again, I would have been more active in sports and extra curricular activities. I didn't really overcome my shyness and was not as confident and assertive until after high school. College Well, my 1 year or so at Solano JC was pretty good. Didn't really bury myself in books and was not focused. Had a pretty good time with a few close friends while it lasted. Signed up for the Registered Nursing program at Solano but had such a long waiting list. Transferred to Napa Valley College and switched to more of the business admin side. Didn't get my Associates degree in either school. It wasn't until I was married and had 2 kids that I finally completed and got my 2 year degree (also while working) in Business Management at Newbury College in Newton, Massachusetts. I then continued to take management courses at Babson College in Wellesley, MA (as part of my education development at the company I work for, EMC Corp). Workplace Hey, my very 1st job at KMart in Vallejo during my senior year and 1st yr college was pretty memorable. Remember those "blue light" specials? I was always nervous getting on the PA to make those announcements. Now I enjoy getting on the microphone either to do a presentation at a meeting (work), hosting a party or event, or just singing (karaoke). I then worked a couple of years at Good Guys in Concord (nightshift). Took a break then got married. From Good Guys, I was employed in SanFrancisco for an insurance company (car/vanpooling everyday). When I moved back to Massachusetts in 1989, I worked for a paper/printing company the same company my Dad, Mom and Norman worked until 1995. My career turned around when I was hired by an Information Technology company in Hopkinton, MA called EMC Corporation. This is where I really learned and put into action my professional, people and communication skills. Since 1995 to present, I've been supporting our International community (Europe, Asia and Latin America). Talk about adapting to different diversities, culture, business/work ethics, timezones!! It was really fun for a lot of years. I switched to different positions but continue to be in the international arena. Since my move to CA, I've been working remotely but still travel back to Massachusetts from time to time. Although I still enjoy the interface and never ending "change" and challenges that the IT world offers, I am ready for my own personal change. Any ideas anyone??
