Penny's Story
Life
When I left Gaithersburg HS at the beginning of the Senior Year, we moved to Topeka, Kansas where I graduated. I went to three universities and graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. The I attended the University of Oklahoma and got my Masters Degree. I got married. Taught school for three years. Moved to San Antonio, TX where I taught my last year. Then we moved to Ft. Rucker, AL and I joined the Army. I was active duty for 12 years and have now been in the Reserves for 13 years. I am a Colonel. I work full-time for the Army Reserves as a GS civilian and am still in the Reserves. I must love it. We have three children and have been married over 30 years. Workplace
After my Master's Degree at Univ. of OK, I taught school for three years. Then I tutored for a year. My husband and I moved to Alabama and I worked at Akwell Industries for a short while - til a massive lay-off. Then I joined the Army and went to Officer Candidate School. I was active duty for 12 years and then went into the Reserves. I am now a Colonel in the 96th Regional Readiness Command and I am the Recruiting and Retention Liaison Officer. I also work full-time civil service for the same Army Reserve unit and am the Human Resources Officer. It keeps me very busy.
Military
July 31, 2003 I got promoted to Colonel. Very exciting to have made it that far.
