After high school I went to Indiana University on the seven year plan. I had more credits in sociology than anything else so I received a B.A. in Sociology (I was only three credits shy of a math degree, too). It took me a year to find a full time job. In the interim, I worked at the Center for Survey Research at IU and at the Monroe County Youth Shelter. My first salaried job was doing Occupational Safety and Health Statistics for the State of Indiana in Indianapolis. I worked for the State for three years, also doing occupational employment and local area unemployment statistics. I took a job with American States Insurance as a computer programmer trainee, thinking it would be a good skill to develop and move on. I've been in Information Technology ever since, though.
