Bill's Story

Life My Kids I have three of the finest kids in the world. All are now grown and settled in there own homes. I have two sons and a special daughter, along with 8 lovely grandchildren. Life has been so good to us, and am blessed to have them all in good health and being successful in life. My Job I work for a semi conductor company in the Silicon Valley of California. I am part of Applied Materials Global University. I am a process engineer, conducting courses in wafer fabrication and computer chip manufacturing for Intel corporation. High tech, fast paced, advanced technology. School I had several biggest crushes, Patty, but Chet got her. Gail but dont know what happened there, and I always had a crush for Sally Swineford and Donna Dinger. Several guys were very fortunate to have them as thier main squeeze. Oh well, thats life, and mine was still great. I forgot to mention Linda she was my favorite (After Patty). Military Well, hi to all of my friends. I have had quite a life in the military, served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years, 4 months and 11 days. I started out at Lackland AFB for my basic training in 1964 and was a little wild and crazy then but some how took the beating and made it through the training there. I was then sent to Chanute AFB in Illinois for my technical training as a Jet Engine Mechanic. Upon completion of my training there I was sent on to my first base of assignment, Stewart AFB, Newburgh New York. At Stewart I worked on the T-33 aircraft and the B-57 Bomber. From Stewart I was sent to Yokota AFB in Japan in support of the Vietnam War. I was a flight mechanic on the C-141 aircraft, flying troops in and out of Vietnam and other South East Asian countries. I got to travel alot in the 4 years at Yokota. I was in and out of the Philipines, Korea, Okinawa, Taiwan, and Nam continuously. Most of my off station time was spent at Osan AFB Korea and Clark AFB in the Philipines. I enjoyed the years in Japan but was always saddened with the sight of troops wounded or in caskets coming out of the war zone. It was always nice to see them walking off the planes even ...Expand for more
if they still had mud on their boots. While still in Japan I trained on the C-5A and eventually was relocated to Dover AFB in Delaware. While in Delaware I worked on and flew with the Lead the force C-5 Aircraft. I flew in and out of Isreal on the 7 day war, and you will never see a more appreciative group of people than the Isrealies. They would always meet our aircraft and give us food and well wishes. While at Dover I became a technical instructor, then the Training School Superintendent for the last 5 years at Dover. I was sent to George AFB in California to be the Superintendent of training there until retirement. I had about 40 instructors there and was also in charge of the Space Shuttle rescue program at nearby Edwards AFB. I finally was offered a great job at McDonnell Douglas that I couldnt pass up, so retired in 1988. I worked for McDonnell Douglas for almost five years on the new MD-11 Aircraft. I was a jet engine training instructor and held classes in Dallas for American Airlines, also taught classes to Fed X, Thia Air, and China Eastern. Had a great career with Douglas I even got to go to Shanghai China when it was still occupied. From Douglas I changed jobs and went to work for Northrop on the new B-2 Stealth Bomber. I was an instructor for Northrop for another five years. I then changed careers and became an instructor for Applied Materials, teaching Intel students the process of making Computer chips. This was a very dangerous job and I ended up leaving with a heart attack. I had a five way bypass and a few years later I had to have two stents put in my heart. That was my final work experience. What a career..........one of many memories of which I will never forget. Forgot to mention that while I was in the Air Force I had Cancer, was operated on and have had no recurrences in over fifty years. The service is like high school, one can not forget the friends you make and the good times you have. I go annually to my Military reunions all over the United States, every year at a different location. Take care and may God Bless our Troops in combat throughout the world. Bill
