Bill's Story
I live in the Albany NY area, where I retired (Dec. '06) as Associate Editor of the Times Union, the leading newspaper in this area of New York/New England, after 40 years in daily journalism in New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
I'm now owner/editor of Circle 7 Associates, which operates a collection of Web sites and blogs, most of them dealing with food, drink and travel ( billdowdcom ).
I have been published in numerous languages in nearly 20 countries. And, I travel a lot (15 countries and 39 states at last count) as a journalist for a variety of International publications and online sites, as well as for my own online sites, and as an international judge in wine and spirits competitions. In addition, a book I conceived, co-wrote and edited -- "Barrels & Drams: The History of Whisk(e)y In Jiggers and Shots" -- was published internationally in September 2011 by Sterling Epicure of New York.
I'm married, have 3 grown kids and 6 grandkids spread out over three states. I've been involved in a variety of charitable organizations aimed at public service and medical philanthropy services for children from Third World nations. I also have been president of such organizations as the NY State Society of Newspaper Editors, the NY State Associated Press, and Albany County (NY) Historical Association.
