Bill's Story

After Bishop Luers I attended IPFW for three years. Went to IU Bloomington for my senior year. Shared an apartment with Gerry Burgette and Steve Swinehart (both Bishop Luers "68 grads). Got drafted, joined the Air Force. Spent two and a half years in San Antonio TX at Lackland AFB, as a Military Training Instructor, training basic trainees. Got out in 1975. Started a law enforcement career with Indiana State Excise Police; then joined Fort Wayne P.D.; and, served a stint as the Director of the Department of Animal Control in Fort Wayne. This last position allowed me to gain management experience to supplement my Masters in Public Administration from IU. In 1989 I moved to Kansas City, MO to take a job with the Federal Aviation Administration as a Federal Air Marshal. Went on to work drug smuggling investigations for the FAA, only to return to the new and improved Federal Air Marshal Service, as a Supervisory Federal Air Marshal, after the events of 9-11. I was stationed in Denver, CO, but was able to return to Kansas City for three years when I served on the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force. I transferred to the Phoenix, AZ office in August 2007. I have been able to see the world during my tenure with the FAMS. I have been to the top of the Eiffel Tower; ridden horses to see ...Expand for more
the Pyramids in Egypt; and, visited the places where Jesus was born and died. I've been to Bangkok, Manila, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Mumbai, Karachi, Athens, Cairo, Caracas, London, Singapore, Saipan, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Rome.... and many more untold foreign and U.S. cities during my travels with the Federal Air Marshal Service. I retired from the Federal Air Marshal Service in Phoenix, AZ in August 2011. I have been married since 1979 to a wonderful woman (Laurie) who has been my saving grace, and helped make me the man that I am. We have two grown children, Katie (husband Hunter) and Joel (wife Natalie). We also have four granddaughters and one grandson, Marin born July 2010, Greer born May 2014, Barrett born June 2017, Parker born April 2019 and Reese born March 2021. As many people do when they get older, I have thought a lot about the "good old days". I really did not hang out with people from Bishop Luers. I never dated any girls from Luers. I was from New Haven, and most of my social life outside of school revolved around people in New Haven, and those who attended New Haven High School. I do, however, enjoy seeing my old classmates every five years at our reunions. I don't subscribe to any other social networking sites, but I thought I would give this one a try. Bill
