Bill's Story

Music and Spanish at Frostburg, drafted, wound up staying 20 years as an intelligence officer. Brief period as a government contractor, transitioned to top-tier global management consulting. Advised multi-$B global companies and a few heads of State. Hired away by a Fortune 500 company, wound up running a global sector of the business as VP/Manufacturing. Retired again, began management consulting to smaller businesses and executive coaching. Took to writing fiction under the pen name Mark Treble. "The Trip to Helen Gawne" (Amazon Kindle) is a buddy road-trip comedy. Four life-long friends travel cross-country in a BMW convertible to take one last shot at their mutual high school sweetheart. Except it's fifty years since High School. What could possibly go wrong? Lived all over the place including Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Oceania. Did session work in Europe as a singer/keyboard player and arranger. Learned German, French, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic. Married my college sweetheart in 1972, 47th anniversary coming up. Two adult daughters - Cindy owns a successful public relations firm, Terri is fully disabled with systemic lupus. All live in Nashville, TN, now. Most of my time is spent mentoring entrepreneurs. Just diagnosed with adult-onset hydrocephalus. Symptoms are severe lack of balance, zoning out, incontinence, eventually serious cognitive difficulty and dementia. trol with medication, balance under control with medication, but brief seizures continue and are occasionally serious. Forgetting how to spell a few words (last one was cholecystectomy, learned it in med school). Practiced psychiatry briefly, haven't practiced medicine in thirty years except for hypnosis support to broken-back patients to control pain. Fortunately I don't expect to live to the dementia stage. Two bouts with cancer, heart attack, cardiac arrest, two strokes and assorted other issues will take me first. At the stage of life where I spend time looking backwards. I've reconnected with half a dozen fraternity brothers from college, looking backwards now at high school. I've led a fortunate life, traveled the world, worked in several dozen industries, have solid adult relationships with my two daughters. Invented a classified weapons system that helped bankrupt the USSR, developed the means to prevent Iraq from attacking our ships during the Gulf War, met an absolute monarch in a middle east country and the emperor of a Pacific Island. Chased up a tree by a feral pig, arrested as an illegal immigrant in a foreign country, once inadvertently propositioned a male taxi driver when I was first learning German, ordered six thousand gallons of gas when learning Italian,. Designed an international airport, designed a manufacturing plant, consulted to a legal arms runner and a legal brothel owner. Never bored.
