Bill's Story
After HS, I graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a degree in Elementary Education. I returned to LI, and briefly taught 6th grade English & Soc. St. at Longwood Middle School. Opting to return to upstate NY, I spent the next 37 years as a classroom teacher in grades 3-6 (all subjects at one time or another). During 20 years of that time, I was also a volunteer Nat'l Ski Patroller at a nearby ski area.
In 1974, I married Nancy DeHart (who lived in Pt. Jeff Sta. & went to JFK - class of '69 too). We currently have a home near Cooperstown, and another winter place near Phoenix, AZ. Our son in Allentown, PA, & daughter in Cooperstown are both married, and have blessed us with 4 grandchildren (2 boys/2 girls) who we get to enjoy on a regular basis. Since retiring in 2010, we have done a fair bit of traveling, both in...Expand for more
the US & abroad. Each winter, we now head to our 2nd home near Phoenix, AZ to enjoy a warmer climate for a few months. We both like to golf and play Pickleball (very popular in the senior/retiree world!), as well as hiking, going to concerts/shows, and socializing with friends. For over 20 years, I've also spent a week each July working for the Nat'l. Baseball HOF as a driver for Induction Weekend, allowing me the chance to meet nearly every HOFer and numerous VIPs.
Lastly, in 1999, I was diagnosed with cancer that required surgery (as well as radiation & chemo). Imagine my surprise to learn that the chief resident was one of my former 5th graders! Having now been a cancer survivor for nearly two decades, I greatly appreciate all the memorable experiences & special life moments I have enjoyed since then.
