Bill McCoskey:

CLASS OF 1970

Bill's Story

Life Hi fellow graduates! If you've gone this far, I guess you want to know what's happening in my world, so here goes . . . Back to the early 70s . . . Uncle sam decided he wanted me in the Army more than Montgomery College did (Draft #4), so in September of '72 I became Pvt McCoskey. Stationed during the first half of my brief military career in Ft Meade, MD (how close to home can ya get?, I spent the next year and a half in Germany where I discovered Europe, and whenever I can I head back to Germany, France, Holland and most of all England. I've been returning to England for the last 25 years whenever I get the chance! Those of you who knew me well back in high school will remember that I was a real car nut, and that hasn't changed. For over 20 years I owned & operated the area's largest "old car" dealership in Silver Spring until lightning hit the building in 1996, burning it to the ground (I lost over $1/2 million that night)! I've owned over 500 antique cars (yes, over 500), examples include a 1914 Buick, many Packard cars from 1937 to 1957, a Czech Tatra having an air-cooled V8 in the rear, 1965 Chrysler Imperial limousine, custom built by Ghia in Italy for Generalissimo Franco, the ruler of Spain, & my newest collector car was a 1985 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Centennial Edition. I've been importing Rolls-Royce, Bentley and other rare cars from England & Europe for over 20 years, and we are the proud owners of the only limousine Queen Elizabeth has ever sold (It's not for sale!) Ever heard of "Fantasy Limousine", the DC area's largest exclusive Rolls-Royce limo service? That was my company, with up to 8 very special Rolls-Rroyce style limousines available. It was a wonderful business in the free-wheeling 80s, but I foresaw the coming limo industry crash of 1990 and got out in time, as I owned the cars & didn't have huge "mortgages" like the other limo services. (Update: have "retired" and sold most of the cars.) Love life? I spent 30 years run...Expand for more
ning all over the world having a great time, meeting Royalty, Kings & Queens (Really-e-mail me for details!), but never married until 2000, when I found the most wonderful lady, now my wife Miriam (Mickie), my true soul-mate. We purchased a pre-civil war Amish farmhouse on 27.6 acres of farmland at the north end of Carroll County MD, with several huge barns on the property, 2 streams, & half wooded. I've been slowly restoring the house and have doubled the floor space with 2 new additions. It's a beautiful place and on a clear day from the top of the back meadow you can see the mountains! We're surrounded by larger farms "in preservation", so it's nice & quiet. This past March found me in the Hospital. For several years I had been battling what the doctors thought was lung congestion due to allergies & sinusitis. The morning of the 26th I just didn't feel well, and a little voice inside me said to get to a Dr NOW! Good thing I listened as I was on the verge of a massive heart attack, and would have died a few hours later. The congestion was from "Congestive Heart Filure", due to a blood clot in my upper diagonal coronary artery. On the 29th of March, I had open-heart surgery at St. Joseph's in Baltimore, (quad bypass) and I feel great. A SOBERING NOTE: My surgeon said something & I'm passing it onto everyone I can; He said fully 50% of the heart attack patients brought into St. Joe's never get a chance to see him before dying. Of the remaining people, all had that "little voice" tell them to see a Dr, and the ones who put it off had a heart attack, the ones like me who did get help DID NOT have a heart attack. So listen to your "inner voice". It may save your life! NOTE: I don't have the level of service with this website that allows me to see your comments, but feel free to e-mail me. I'm not permitted to include my e-mail address, but if you go to AOL and search for my name (BillMcCoskey) You'll find it.(We're also in the Carrol Co. MD. phone book.)
