Life
What do you say to a group of people you haven't seen in 30 years? I dunno. Let me see. We left Cresskill when I was in the 10th grade...from a town of 4,000 to a high school in Cleveland with 3,500 students. Now that is culture shock. Ohio University, BS Journalism, 1969. Television reporter, Columbus, Ohio; Law School; Assistant Attorney General; now elected Judge of the Court of Appeals. Bizarre twist. At 54 years old I graduated from Nursing School and now moonlight in a Pediatric Emergency Room as a Registered Nurse. Don't ask. Widowed six years ago, leaving me with four wonderful kids, twins and one adopted...two in college and two still at home keeping me honest. Military
Graduated from Ohio University as an ROTC Second Lieutenant, United States Army, 1969. Active duty 13 days later, and Vietnam 13 months later. Had a job as an escort officer for the television networks covering the war...essentially in the air all day chasing the lead story for CBS evening news. Awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. Went on to serve 20 years in the Ohio National Guard and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Last official assignment was with the security forces at the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. Recently the local newspaper did a story on the three generations of O'Neills to serve overseas...first my dad in World War II, me in Vietnam, and now my son Shawn is with the Air Force in Iraq. 7/23/05
