Bill's Story

Greetings and salutations, Some may remember me as Billy Gene or Jelly Bean, but now I go by Bill. My family moved to Tacoma, Washington the Fall of '63, or I'd have graduated from Sylacauga High in Alabama in '66. After we moved I went to Franklin Pierce in '63, and then we moved to our new home in Puyallup (pew-all-up), Washington the Summer of '64, and I graduated from Puyallup High in '66. I made many friends in Washington, but long to connect with the kids I grew up with in Alabama. After High School I worked a year at Boeing, then went in the Marines (Semper Fi). Actually Dennis Holmstrom and I got busted street racing behind the old Mormon Church in Puyallup trying to impress girls, and I enlisted to stay out of jail. My Dad said that was like hanging myself to avoid the firing squad, oh well. After Vietnam I came home somewhat broken and messed up and married my first wife, Donette, a beautiful and sweet young lady who eventually ran out of patience waiting for me to grow up. We had a beautiful daughter, Eva Lynn, who looks like her Mom but acts like her Dad. I went through an emotional maturing after my divorce, and eventually another beautiful and caring lady named Sandi took me on as a project. After 31 yrs. she still has not given up hope that I will grow up. I would like to oblige her, but I believe there is nothing to be gained in the effort at this late date as I've grown too attached to having an emotionally arrested 16 year old brain in a 67 year old body. I work hard to be a bad influence and corrupt whoever is hanging around. After the Marines, as I grew older (not up) I had many jobs & hobbies. I was a photographer, built/raced 26' T'bird sailboats to name a couple. Since I had a high aptitude for math and logic, I found my way into the computer industry. Some may know that Microsoft is located up here. Sadly I did not work for Microsoft and become fabulously wealthy, a fact that still bothers me. Eventually I earned a BS in Computer Science and an MS in Systems Management and worked as an IT Manager/Director, CTO, ...Expand for more
Network Engineer, Senior Systems Analyst, and Project Manager. I am currently retired working occasionally as a Technology Project Manager and Business Consultant. Sandi still works for the Pierce County Sheriff as their lone IT Support person in the Pierce County Jail. For fun I have a nice 4-car hot rod shop in Tacoma I share with Dan Grounds, an old Puyallup High School and Marine Corp buddy where we build what ever strikes our fancy for the moment. For those that remember, I still have my 1970 Mustang Red Mach1 and the 1970 Mustang Convertible, but lately have switched to building up a couple of Chevy street trucks. My favorite is a lowered 1967 GMC Short Wide Bed with a 550HP 468 Big Block Chevy done up in survivor/relic, old on the outside new underneath with BATs (Big Ass Tires) on the back. It looks like just an old lowered farm truck that needs a paint job until I crank it up and hit the throttle, then all you see is tire smoke and it going sideways down the road, awesome. Our next project is a 1968 Chevy SWB with 650HP Big Block, but Sandi wants me to paint this one murder black and put in a tilt steering column with the shifter on the column, no problem.. Ah, but I can go on about not very much. Right now we live in a nice home overlooking Henderson Bay on Raft Island in Gig Harbor, Washington. We never lived as well as we could when we were raising kids and all, and our current home is the end result of many years of buying fixing and selling homes to get here. Fortunately I am good at this, so now we get to live on a little piece of heaven. When Sandi decides to retire we will need to sell it because the taxes are brutal and some of you already know what happens when you go on to a fixed income. Email me, and I will send a jpeg of one of our memorable sunsets. Well, you're a good person if you read all of this. Sandi says I have a real talent at using the maximum number of words to express the minimum amount of subject. Ya'll send that email along now, and let me know what's happened to you these past 50 years. Bill Robinson
